Well athough these posts have been speradic at best it is finally time for me to move on, the final reason for me to be in this place has ceaced to be, and there is nothing left for me here.
Looking back on the past year and a bit I would have to say that i have made more than a few mistakes, and i leave with more than one regrett, but as time moves on so must I.
I have only a little time left to wait before i can leave, a few close friends to see before i go and a very small bag of bits and peices to take with me.
Jakarta is a city for those people who can put up with the constant frustrations of the indonesian way, and that candle has burnt very low for me, Once again i have been schooled in the art of paicents, and although there have been moments where i could have entertained the thought of satying here for longer the negatives of the city overwhelm all of the positives and as such unless you really have a good reason to stay i would say dont!

Fashion People
As you may or may not know i am a part time model! (if you can you should!!!) and whilst on a shoot today i had a good excuse to study the 'fashion people'. I have been all around the world and after some heavy thought i have come to the conclusion "that no matter where you go the faces change the things they do stay the same" (i'm trade marking that quote right here).
its like there is a book that all of these people read cover to cover and then try to copy exactly what it says, but with less money and little taste of there own. Sure nothing has been original since the Internet, with maybe the exception of the sony adverts, and everything has all ready been done, seen and had the tee shirt bought. That has to be because we all still have the same instincts that the people we emulate had 50 years ago.
there are some pretty big things happening in the world right now, the wild fires in auz, Obama clamping down on over paid failures for management, and Europe following suit. Not to mention the constant threat of that dreaded word terrorism, a car bomb in Spain yesterday, my god man Spain!!
So with that in mind what do i over hear as the main topic of conversation going through the day? yup that's right the launch date & features for the new blackberry! Sure, different people have different ideals and priorities, but does that mean that they should not know what is going on around the world? does it give me the right to call them ignorant?
If i were to ask about the Australia situation to some of these people i am sure i would get a response along the lines of "so?".
My apparent frustration is born from seeing these people living there lives in a bubble, one which consists of them, there ability to "earn" money and the few people they like shopping with. 50 years ago i could have understood the ignorance, but now with instant news reporting, rss feeds, satellite tv and Internet in general; is there any excuse for people not to know a little more than just what goes on directly in front of there face?
It does seem to me as an outsider that society in general has basically rejected these people, i do like to think that i am one of those people who fall through cracks, who isn't one thing or another because i'm both.
Yup i am a norm, a mear mortal and one day i will pass on to whatever is next safe in the knowledge that even if i didn't climb k2, or see the northern lights i will have treated the people in my life with the same kindness, warmth and compasion that they have show me, well mostly!

A long time no sea
Wow has it really been that long? i guess so, so here it is the second month of the new year. Jakarta is pretty much the same, the people are the same, the traffic is the same, the weather is the same. In fact the only difference seems to be how many new buildings that are appearing over the sky line.
development in Indonesia is on going at a relentless pace despite of the recent global economic problems. The last time the world had problems poor ol' Indo crashed just as bad, but not this time. Sure they are not world leaders in anything but everything is continueing in or at about the same level, projections show that growth will shrink to around 3% this year which if i remember is not that bad comparitavly. The strength of the dollar has had some what of an effect on the middle classes, but it basically just means eating one day a week less!
Anyone looking to invest the next 10 or so years should all ready be looking at asia, but dont forget to keep a weather eye on the little guy.
